Keep track of what your kids do on-line and protect them from on-line nasties.

This free service from Norton may not provide the best service of this type, but for free it is definitely better than nothing and is indeed a respectable offering from the huge Symantec/Norton security company.

It's easy to set-up and configure ...

(1) Go to Norton's Online Family site (clicking the link will open the site in a new window)

(2) Sign up with a new account (click the 'get started' button) - you'll need to enter a password of your choosing and valid email address

(3) Then enter a profile for each child who has access to your PC, enter details, pick an avatar and click 'add child'.

(4) Now click 'next' and install the "Safety Minder"

(5) Assuming your protecting children on the PC your currently using click the "Install Now" button (PC & Mac versions available)

(6) Now follow the software set-up prompts ending with giving the current computer you've installed the software on a name - this PC is added to your online account.

(7) In the'settings' window you can now, for each child you've set-up:

 - restrict websites that can be visited (warn, block or monitor)

- monitor social network activity

- control Instant Messaging

- control personal data that is shared

- set usage restrictions.

(8) Login to the norton site to see track and discuss your children's online activity.
